Four Massachusetts Militia orders dated 1819 belonging to Joseph Young Jr. for the years 1819, 1822, and two for 1851. In 1819 and 1822 the commanding officer was George Grant, and in 1851 it was Francis Plaisted. In 1819 Young was enrolled as a soldier in the company of George Bean, in 1822 he wass enrolled as soldier in company of Joshua Winn, and in 1851 he was enrolled in the company of Samuel Preble Jr. The orders are on small slips of paper that were located inside of a paper envelope addressed in type print to "Whiting Milk Company." Handwritten in pen on the envelope reads, "Town of York / [illegible] Volunteers / for Civil War." |
