Fragment of a document Daniel Sewall Esq., David Grant, and Elihu Bragdon of York and Samuel Young of York. It is unclear the purpose of the document, however it is possibly a land dispute of some sort. The back has handwritten text from December 7, 1803 and mentions Sewall and the others had personally appeared, most likely to court, making an oath that in performing the business assigned in the written commission they could act faithfully and impartially according to their best skill and judgement. The bottom portion of the text reads, "Pursuant to the foregoing commission, we the subscribers after giving due notice to all persons whom we could find were interested some of whom attended, after viewing the lands and considering the quality of same we have set off to the said Samuel Young for his parts and proportion as follows: in lot number four in the first dividion, beginning at the East....." Part of a group of five documents found in an envelope labeled, "Old Papers / Mr. Samuel A. Preble / 'York Village / Maine." |
