"Octavia Baker boards here... she is coming up to York to make a visit... I wish you would send her a paper so I could read it,". Transcription: Dear Parents, I received your letter last Monday and was glad to hear you all so well. Though I was sorry not to have a line from you, mother. Mr Weston would not let me room up stairs with Baker, and so he would not come down and room with me and I don't blame him, nor anybody else for not wanting to room there. I shall try hard not to room there next term. You asked me to try say in my next what I studied. I study grammar, mathmatic, and geography. I get along first rate with them. I never improved more in so short a time in my life. Mr. Berton is my teacher and he makes me understand arithmetic to a cahrm. Mr. Weston only comes in once or twice a week to see to things. I suppose this is as good a school as there is in the state at any rate it is considered so. But as I am going to write the next I must close. Mr. Baker told me to send his love to you. Write soon Yours xo Lent Dear Aunt and Sister, Thinking you might like to hear from me. I now take this opportunity to pen you a few times.
