Scope & Content |
A leather covered "memorandum book 1854" record of Supreme Court Cases kept by Joseph Bragdon Jr. The book keeps incomplete records through 1858 with the bulk concentrated in 1854. Details of the cases are spare. Often the defendant is named, the charge and verdict is recorded. Charges range from selling liquor to setting fires to assault & battery and breaking and entering. This ledger also seems to be a record of costs incurred by Bragdon while acting as an attorney for some defendants. A glossary of legal terms is also included. Toward the back of the ledger, there are notes addressing various odds and ends, such as, estate divisions, the route a new road will take, lists of foodstuffs and household goods along with their prices. |
