Handwritten letter dated October 21, 1859 from Andrew Leonard Emerson in New York to his parents Charles O. Emeron and Harriet (Phillips) Emeron in York. It is a very short letter and has an envelope. Leonard writes that he came down from Stanford to join his ship but realized when he got there that sailing had been delayed for a few more days. He also gives his family a location to write him so he can receive their letters when he arrives. Transcription: Dear Parents, I came down from Stanford this morning and find the ship will not probably sail before next Friday. I shall go back to S [Stamford] tomorrow and spend the Sabbath and join the ship "for good." Monday morning. Abbie has written all the news so I will close with much love to all the family. I remain your affec son. Leonard Direct care Flint & Peabody San Francisco in four months from date |
