A diary containing a yearly calender, facts about the solar system and division of time, rates of return on investments, a chart listing the value of foreign gold and silver coins, rates of postage, astronomical facts, festivals, chronological cycles, tide charts etc. All these pages are at the beginning of the diary. After this information, there are blank pages, many of which have notes written on them. The notes are observations of the weather and a recording of activities on a particular day such as, traveling, expenses, the weather, attending church, working on York county business in Alfred and Augusta, election outcomes, county commission business, and selective vital records. The diarist is believed to be Joseph Bragdon Jr., however, this cannot be documented. |
