Handwritten letter dated February 12, 1867 from Andrew Leonard Emerson on the ship Gaspee in Callao to his mother in York. In this short letter Leonard writes to his family saying that he has not heard from them since Montevideo, Uruguay and had hoped to have received a letter from them. He says that he'll be leaving for Cork the next day and gives them addresses of where to reach him. Transcription: My dear Mother, Altho I have not received a line from any of you since I left Montevideo, yet I cannot go away without writing a word or two. I should have thot Frank might have found time to write. I sail for Cork tomorrow, expect to be there by the 20th May. I hope you will write me at Queenstown, Ireland, once, Care John Dawson Esq. after the first time direct J.G. Richardson & Co. Liverpool. I see John here quite often & as he has letters from home, I get the news. I hope Fannie will be well enough to join me, Love to all. From Your affec. Son Leonard. |
