Started working at father's store maybe age 16, and became businessman at 19. Shipowner and partnet by 1795 with brother Edward Emerosn Jr. Bulkeley was given role of executor of his father Edward Emerson Sr.'s estate and was given the York Street tavern, store, and house to take care of and run. Bulkeley ran the Tavern-House until 1815, when he committed suicide and his widow Hannah had to sell it to David Wilcox. |
