The exhibit, produced by Old York Historical Society, opened in June 2011 in the Remick Barn Gallery. The booklet details the experiences of Esther Sayward, captured by Wabanaki Indians during the Candlemas Raid on York in 1692. The bookle'ts story follows Esther's life in captivity in Canada, where she was sold into slavery [along with her mother, Mary Plaisted, and sister, Mary Sayward], and lived in a Catholic convent. Esther conversion to Catholicism from Puritanism and her decision to stay in French Canada rather than return to York. Esther visited York once, after her captivity.
