The spinning wheels shown in the photographs were made at the Alfred, Maine Shaker Community and are still part of Old York’s collection. Several women are in colonial costume. The man in the Uncle Sam hat is John Norwood. The woman behind the large spinning wheel is Julia Hutchins. The man at the far right is Captain John Dennett. |
