Description |
The 76 photographs within this album were taken by Commander C.I. Jewell of the US Navy in York, Maine in 1911. The album is unbound, with loose pages stored in individual plastic sleeves. The pages are black paper, 10.125" x 7.25", with three hole punch on the left-hand side where they must have been bound. Pages are also accompanied with onion skin paper with location names printed in type. All photographs are adhered to the paper page with adhesive. "York Harbor, Maine / September 19, 1911 / To / The Curator, Old York Museum, / York, Maine / While recently engaged in a certain research / into the history of one of the old families of York, I found / that the house built by the original settler of the house had / been demolished less than four years ago and that not / a vestige remains. / The antiquity of Old York and its present / prosperity and popularity to assure many such / changes in the near future, I present herenth a / photographic record of some features of the town which / has appealed to me; and [illegible] it to your care as / an aid to future delvers into the story of by gone days. / C.I.
