Description |
Souvenir paperweight featuring image of the Ocean House hotel in the early 20th century. A tinted photographic print of the Ocean House, one of York Beach's grand hotels, set into base of rectangular piece of clear, colorless glass with rounded edges. The base is depressed with beveled edges. Photo backed with maroon-colored paper. Marked "Pyro Photo Mfg. Co., / 525 & 527 Broome St. / New York". The Ocean House was an opulent York Beach hotel. Originally named Ocean Wave Pavillion when built circa 1875, it first served as roller skating rink. It was renamed to Ocean House in 1888. It was restored in 1980s, but was soon after declared unsafe. The original building was destroyed and rebuilt in 1986 into condominiums. Soon after its completion it was destroyed by fire. A new structure was built on the site in 1987. |
