Description |
Balance (scale B) in case (C) with weights (D, E, F) Balance scale (B) part of medicine case. Two brass sheet pans, slightly concave, with rolled edges. Three small holes drilled into rims. Attached to brass balance bar by three lengths of pink/white rope braided cord each. Steel pointer. Suspended by yellow silk cord on S-hook. Not marked. Composition scale case (C) with top stamped "Fine Apothecary Scales". Black exterior with ridged surface. Hinged brass hook closure on front. Interior lined with red felted wool. Front left base of interior with square depression covered with hinged piece of sheet tin. Second depression is long and narrow across top and widens into round circle at front right with slight depression to left of circle. Plain gray base. Brass scale weight (D). Square with engraved cursive figure resembling "3i" on both sides. Probably Arabic script. Brass scale weight (E). Square with engraved script similar to "3y" on both sides. Probably Arabic script. (Missing) Brass scale weight (F). Square with engraved script similar to "386" on both sides. Probably Arabic script. |
