Paperweight souvenir of "Young's Hotel, York Beach Maine". Rectangular molded clear glass with scalloped sides. Three quarter view photograph of White 4-storied building with wrap around porch, smaller house on proper left, rocky cliff below. Looking down on object, rectangular photograph appears to float in glass. Young's Hotel was originally called Thompson House (c1883), renamed 1895. Largest and most opulent hotel in York Beach. Dismantled in 1965. The hotel had a dance hall, servants' quarters, laundry, plumbing, its own spring well, and accommodations for 300 guests. |
