White ceramic dinner plate featuring a black transfer-printed image of "First Parish Church, York, Maine". The plate is molded with a pattern of raised fruit and leaves along rim. Metallic gold edging on exterior edge of rim. Stamped in green on back, "Eggshell / Theme / Homer Laughlin / Made in U.S.A." flanked by laurels. Below, also in green, "C52N4". Stamped in black on back, "[image of two globes, each showing one of the two hemispheres] / World Wide Art Studios / Covington, Tenn." Printed on back in black, "The First Parish Church in York is the oldest / religious society in Maine. It has been a / Congregational Church since 1673 and was / formerly known as the First Church of Christ. / Pictured here is its Fourth Meeting House, / built in 1747, which is a monument to the / memory of the Rev. Samuel Moody, the renowned / Father Moody of early Colonial days, who laid / its cornerstone and lived to see it completed. In the course of years it has been remodeled / three times, in 1839, 1882, and most / recently in 1951, when it was restored to the / simplicity, dignity and beauty of the late / Colonial period of Church architecture. / Three Meeting Houses preceded this one, the / earliest being a Chapel or Oratory of the / Church of England, dating back to 1636." |
