Apparently went into the drapery buisness but tired quickly of that. After graduating from school he moved to Worcester, MA where he opened up a dry goods business for three years. Moved to Portage, WI in 1855 where his ideas of earning a living always failed and was always in need of funds. Moved back to York for a period in 1858 and asked his father Charles for a sum of money to invest in the Bank of Portage, opening in 1857. Edward became President of the Bank. The bank went bankrupt in 1861 due to the Civil War, cauasing Edward to be in financial trouble again. He joined the army in the Civil War in 1861. After the War in 1865 he retuned to Titusville, working as a teller and cashier of the newly opened Second National Bank, then joining in the search for oil. Oil and Natural gas businessman; one of the founders of the Peoples Natural Gas Company which became the Sun Oil Company, today known as Sunoco (2013). He sold his interests in the firm in 1899 and retired. Prominent citizen of Titusville, PA. - Mayor, 1890; President and member of Select Council; school board member Banker |
